Douglas Green Chardonnay clinches double gold at Michelangelo International Awards

The highly acclaimed Douglas Green Chardonnay 2017 from DGB (Pty) Ltd has expanded on the stellar success of previous vintages by taking home a coveted double-gold accolade at the recently announced Michelangelo International Wine and Spirits Awards.

The Michelangelo Awards is South Africa’s leading international wine show, with 28 judges from 23 countries adjudicating on its judging panel. The glittering awards ceremony took place in Cape Town on 29 September. This year’s competition drew 1 633 entries from prominent wine and spirits producers worldwide. The sought-after Gran d’Or or double gold medal is awarded to entries that achieve a minimum score of 96 points out of 100, a magnificent feat considering the high level of competition.

The grapes for Douglas Green Chardonnay 2017 are sourced from vineyard rich in limestone in the Robertson region, an area renowned for yielding top quality Chardonnay. The wine consists of both an unoaked (70%) and lightly oaked component and is left on the fine lees for extended periods to gain extra character and complexity. It has delicious tropical pineapple and honey melon aromas, which persist beautifully onto the palate, combined with refreshing lemon-lime citrus notes, typical of that area. With its exceptional purity of fruit, drinkability and balance, it is fast entrenching itself as a firm favourite among lovers of fine South African Chardonnay.
