Born in Vredendal and raised on a wine farm along the lush banks of the Olifants River, Isabel brings a young, feminine touch to the Douglas Green cellar. For someone who grew up in a family and community for whom wine is near religion, her approach to the subject is remarkably refreshing: wine should be accessible and enjoyable for the everyday consumer. A good wine is one that is enjoyed by the person who drinks it, regardless of its price, style or origin, Isabel believes.

This unpretentious and down-to-earth vintner studied at CPUT before joining the Douglas Green team in 2014. Her career has also given her the opportunity to travel abroad and explore other wine cultures, and she has fond memories of visiting the US wine region of Russian River in the Sonoma Valley, where she acquired a wealth of international viticultural knowledge and a passion for Pinot Noir in particular.

When she is not immersing herself in everything wine-related, Isabel loves to spend time in the outdoors and helping out on the family farm. She also plays a variety of sports and is a keen golfer. Another favourite pastime is spending time with friends and loved ones around a braai or dinner table, naturally always accompanied by a glass of Douglas Green wine.

Her vision for the Douglas Green wines she crafts is that they should be a product that over-delivers on quality and value, a staple for the average consumer and enjoyed by all. Because for Isabel, wine is ultimately about enjoyment and sharing special moments with those dear to you. And hopefully, she says, the consumer recognises that’s what Douglas Green is all about.
